Flomax is a prescription drug used to treat enlarged proste (BPH). The way Flomax is administered is through a capsule taken around the same time daily. Flomax is an ongoing prescription that is supposed to be taken continualy.

If you stop taking this medication symptoms may return. The manufacturer claims after taking Flomax as prescribed the symptoms of BPH could decrease as soon as one week.

The way Flomax works is it relaxes the veins and arteries allowing blood to move through more freely. This effect is also spread to the bladder and prostate where the muscles become more relaxed allowing easier urination.

There are side effects to Flomax as stated on their website:

"Flomax is approved to treat male urinary symptoms due to BPH. Only your doctor can tell if your symptoms are due to BPH and not another condition such as prostate cancer. Common side effects of Flomax are runny nose, dizziness and decrease in semen. A sudden decrease in blood pressure may occur upon standing, rarely resulting in fainting. So when starting Flomax, avoid situations where injury could result. If considering cataract surgery, tell your eye surgeon you have taken Flomax capsules."

Flomax usage will be monitored by your doctor on a regular basis. It is important like with most medications if you miss a dose you call your doctor to find out the corrective course of action. Doubling of any medication is usually bad for you.

Other factors to consider when taking Flomax is it may negatively affect your thinking and reaction time. You should be extra careful while driving. When getting up while on this medication take your time to avoid becoming dizzy. Alcohol may increase any dizziness caused by taking Flomax.
